Mbaye Babacar Diouf Senegalese, b. 1983

Biography
Diouf works in painting, sculpture, and installation. He is interested in digging into the rich Senegalese philosophical and intellectual history, and spirituality, to examine contemporary Senegalese society and challenges it faces within the global context. His work has been examining notions such as: communities and individuals’ visibility, ownership, and transformation, African history, and art as social engagement. 
  
Diouf first experimented with bronze as a material in 2021 for a commission emanating from the Institut Fondamental d’ Afrique Noire (IFA Museum) in Dakar with the creation of “The Pearls of Light”, an important installation that took him two years to complete, creating a 700 kg piece in the shape of  a giant Tijaniyya  Rosary, an allusion to the Sufi tradition that is prevalent in Senegal. 
  
Mbaye Babacar Diouf exhibited extensively in Senegal, including at the Dakar Biennale, “Dak’ Art 2016” curated by Simon Njami; Raw Material (2016), IFAN (2021), The Museum of Black Civilizations (2022), all in Dakar. He was the recipient of many awards on the African continent, including: the Silver Prize, Painting, at the Francophonie Games, 2017 (Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire), and the 1st Prize for Art, City of Dakar , 2022 (with A. Bassene). He had been exhibited outside Senegal, among others, at: the Institut du Monde Arabe,(2017), La Villette, Cite des Arts et des Sciences,(2017), both in Paris, France; Musee Mohamed VI, Rabat, Morocco (2020). He was a Resident at the Cite des Arts, Paris in 2019.
