“Fanorona Sivy” is part of a recent series of paintings by the Malagasy artist that tackles the complex relationship between man and its natural environment. Temandrota layers organic materials suchas wood, sap, resin, and leaves which he builds though a meshmade of sisal - a plant that used to be cultivated in the Southernpart of the country where he was raised. He mixes them with acrylic paint, punctuating his abstract compositions with man-made ‘objets trouves”, such as scraps of mobile phone or parts of flip-flops. The diptych opposes the green forest to the grass plain, allud in to the issue of forest logging by a population who does not benefit from infrastructures, and still uses wood as a fuel.
