This Sculpture/Side Chair is a unique object inspired to the artist by traditional beliefs coming from the Sahel region in which the world of humans, vegetals, animals and objects mutate from one another. It conjures up notions of antropomorphism, hybridity, and surrealism.
As is at the core of Niang's practice the materials are all reclaimed and sourced locally, involving the community around the studio, which is 40km from Dakar, Senegal's capital city. They include: Bois de Melisse and Accacia; the leather of the seat has been sourced locally and tanned in the studio.
